State of Emergency Declaration Lifted in Seychelles

The President declared a state of emergency at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, following an explosion in the Providence industrial area on the island of Mahé, as well as landslides and flooding that hit the northern part of the main island of Seychelles.

The Department of Tourism confirmed that no tourists were harmed, despite the damage to several facilities in the Beau Baron and Bel Ombre areas. In addition, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), in cooperation with the various government agencies and the Seychelles Red Cross, conducted a thorough survey of the affected areas and reaffirmed that the Seychelles remained safe. The state of emergency was lifted approximately 12 hours later. Pointe Laloux International Airport remained in operation during this period.
